PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: WILMINGTON YOUTH HOCKEY - "YOU HAVE BEEN CHECKED"

The entire month of October, Wilmington Youth Hockey has been raising money for breast cancer awareness. Wilmington teams have their player sticks taped pink for the month, but their efforts went further then tape on a stick.

Every night in October, Wilmington players and families have been seen going to neighborhood houses and staking up signs on the lawns that reads “You’ve Been Checked: We Proudly Support Breast Cancer Awareness.”

If the signs reach your front yards, the family has the option to donate to the Ellie Fund, which directly supports breast cancer patients and their families, along with taking part in the challenge to “check” the next family.

This challenge has brought the community of Wilmington together as well as spread awareness for a great cause.

If you would like to contribute to the team’s efforts to raise money for breast cancer awareness, donations can be made to Wilmington Youth Hockey to be included in their final donation, or donate directly to the Ellie Fund.

While we love showing off your players/teams highlight goals with our TSR- Livebarn play of the week, we now want to do the same with what’s happening off the ice. Has your VHL team or program done something exceptional in the community?

Submit your story to be featured on our Program Spotlight.
