Midget – PLAYOFFS

Eighth-seeded Stoneham won the title.

In play-in games, Kyle Barry wore the hat and had an assist and Matt Soucy scored two goals and set up two others as Stoneham defeated Wellesley 5-3 – Luke Conti with two goals and an assist in the loss; Dom Guardino scored twice and Cam O’Connell and Chad Maraschalchi scored 32 seconds apart in the first period as Burlington topped Shrewsbury II 5-1; Tom Giachetto erupted for all five goals as Shrewsbury I downed Woburn II 5-2; Spencer pitched a shutout and Calcagni had a goal and an assist as Shrewsbury I nipped Natick 2-0; Chris Sweeney scored twice and Robert McCabe had two assists as Woburn II trimmed the Crusaders 4-1; and Crowley scored twice and Hogan pitched a shutout as Melrose’s defeated Billerica 4-0.

In the quarterfinals, Soucy had a goal and an assist and Stoneham edged top-seeded Reading 4-3 – No. 15 with a goal and an assist in the loss; Hogan pitched a shutout and McNeely ended Jeremy Morgenstern’s shutout with 1:01 left to give Melrose a 1-0 decision over Andover; Maraschalchi wore the hat in Burlington’s 4-1 victory over Woburn I; and Wolohan wore the hat and Calcagni and Sheeran both posted a goal and an assist as Shrewsbury I topped Woburn II 5-2.

In the semis, Soucy wore the hat and had an assist, Kyle Barry posted 1-1-2 and Brendan Thorpe had two assists in Stoneham’s 6-3 victory over Shrewsbury I – Wolohan with 1-1-2 and Sheeran two assists in the loss; and Nick Scali scored what turned out to be the winner with 8:18 left in the second period as Burlington edged Melrose 2-1.

In the championship game, Soucy scored two goals and set up another in Stoneham’s 3-1 win over Burlington.
