Portland Pirate Bantams Thriving in VHL Play
The Portland Pirates program is enjoying a season in which its Bantam teams are thriving. The Pirates are based out of Sacco, Maine and are one of the many programs which hail from outside of Massachusetts.

Portland’s Bantam 1 team currently holds a 4-4-3 record in the Bantam Blue South division and is coming off a 1-1-1 stretch of games. Following a hard-fought 3-3 tie against the Lexington/Bedford B2 squad, the Pirates rebounded nicely with an impressive 7-0 blanking of North Andover B1. In that game, Riley Francis posted three goals and two assists, Justin Cloutier added three assists and Cam Wiewel contributed one goal and one assist. Zachary O’Connor was outstanding in net as he collected the shutout victory for the Pirates.

In the team’s latest contest, Portland fell to the league-leading Blizzard Bantam 1 squad by a score of 5-1. The squad will next face off against S&S B1 on Friday, January 30.
The Bantam 2 team, meanwhile, scored a big 6-1 victory over Beverly in Silver Division action during the week ending January 18. Drew Lavigne was a force as he finished with two goals and one assist. Owen Lemoine also got into the scoring act as he registered one goal and one assist.

The team is currently riding a two-game winning streak after disposing of Stoneham by a score of 8-3 one week earlier. In that game, Owen Lemoine was a star once again by posting three assists. Carter Davis scored twice in 28 seconds and John Ratoff and Drew Lavigne both finished with one goal and one assist.

The team - which now stands at 7-4 in league play - is next scheduled to take on the Lexington/Bedford Bantam 3s on February 1.
